Sustainable climbing shoes made from Baltic birch | Kletterling®

The Baltic Birch - Our sustainable raw material

Latvia, located in northeastern Europe, is a country rich in forests. More than half of its area is covered by trees. The Baltic states are known for their pristine nature, their national parks, and their skilled craftsmen. Timber, especially the Baltic birch, plays a central role in this. Wood products from the Baltics are exported worldwide.

Our climbing frames are made from a rapidly renewable and therefore sustainable raw material, which represents an important economic sector for the Baltic countries and secures jobs.

Our holistic approach to greater sustainability

Sustainability means that the consumption of a raw material must not exceed its regenerative capacity. But today's understanding of sustainability goes even further: It's about making a contribution to the future of our planet.

As a company, we ask ourselves: What can we do to secure the future of the Earth? The cycle of nature is closed when a product can be reused after its use or completely returned to nature.

Our sustainable production

In the Kletterling workshop, we use 90% wood in the form of birch plywood. This plywood is glued and then assembled into individual parts after processing. Our products are durable and can be passed down to future generations. When a Kletterling is no longer needed, the untreated wood can be completely returned to nature. The screws have an even longer lifespan and can be reused. This fulfills our core concept of sustainability.

Our goal for 2022: Plastic-free packaging

We currently wrap the individual parts tightly in film to prevent damage and ensure safe transport. However, we are working hard to find a plastic-free packaging alternative that will deliver our products just as reliably to your home. This is a topic that is very important to us!

Fair and social production

Why don't we manufacture in Germany? It's simple: We support a fair employer in Europe, thus promoting economic growth in a structurally weak European country. Our partners pay above-average wages, maintain an open, friendly relationship with their employees, and give everyone a say.

By purchasing a Kletterling, you support a fair and socially responsible employer and strengthen economic development in Europe! Thank you very much for your trust.

Our carefully selected materials

Plywood with FSC certificate

We source our plywood from Latvia's largest manufacturer, which holds an FSC 100 certification. The glue we use is formaldehyde-free and meets the limits of the "Blue Angel" eco-label. We consciously avoid varnishes, oils, and preservatives to ensure that our children are not exposed to any chemicals.

Screws without toxic chromium VI

We purchase the screws for our climbing frames in Denmark. They are treated with non-toxic chromium III. Our products do not contain harmful chromium VI.
