Safe Climbing for Children: How to Best Support Your Child
Climbing is a valuable experience for children that promotes their motor skills and self-confidence. To ensure your child climbs safely and joyfully, please keep the following advice in mind:
Let Your Child Explore Independently
Avoid placing, setting, or hanging your child on the climbing equipment. This can lead to injuries and takes away the chance for the child to develop their skills independently. Climbing toys are most beneficial when your child explores the climbing triangle or other equipment on their own initiative.
Every child learns to climb at their own pace. At first, they may only practice pulling themselves up and standing before gradually trying out climbing. Through this self-directed approach, your child learns to judge their limits and develops a secure sense of handling the climbing toy.
Show your child the new play equipment and encourage curiosity. Be patient and give your child the time they need. You will be amazed at how brave and confident your child can become while climbing.
The Three Most Important Rules for Safe Climbing
- Supervision: Never let your child climb unsupervised. Always stay nearby and assist when needed. Even as little ones grow more confident, they still need your presence and help.
- Suitable Ground: Place the climbing toy on a non-slip, level surface or a suitable mat such as our play mats or puzzle felt mats. This prevents the equipment from slipping and provides a cushioning surface.
- Independent Climbing: Let your child decide when and how to use the climbing equipment. Do not lift, place, or hang them on the climbing toy, as this can cause injuries. The greatest benefit comes when your child climbs on their own and develops their skills.
Follow these rules and enjoy discovering the fascinating world of climbing together!
Important: Never leave your child unsupervised and always be ready to support them.
