Family business with heart

Personal advice

We offer you personal advice on development and setup questions comfortably at home. Just a few easy-to-assemble and safe movement elements, like a climbing triangle, change your child's activity level and thus their mood for the better. But that is only the beginning; with us, you can turn your home into a place where your child can always follow their need for movement and relaxation, and then something magical happens—as if by magic, calmness settles in with you, in your child, and in you!

We are Isabell, Erik, and Kosmo. We founded Kletterling out of necessity: Quality is so often feigned with marketing nonsense. We want as much clarity as possible. What material is my child's toy made of, where does it come from, and were chemicals used? How is the safety, and is it really made in Europe? Made in China, assembled in Germany, and then called Made in Germany does not exist with us. All products come from small makers in Europe, to whom we give their well-deserved platform here. Often, the problem lies in customer service in a foreign language, which we fully take over because we love to be in contact with you, which unfortunately is becoming rarer nowadays.

Also, when you buy from us, you use secure payment methods in Germany from a German company, which gives you a good feeling and security so that you can fully focus on why you are here: to find the right movement toy for your child.

Thank you for your trust!

Slides: The Guide to Safe Playtime

Slides are not only a highlight on every playground but also an indispensable element for bringing movement and fun into your children's everyday life. Wild sliding sessions not only promote motor skills but also boost self-confidence and social abilities in our little ones. In a world where screen time often dominates leisure, slides provide a welcome change and attract children of all ages like a magnet.

But what makes a good slide? And how do you best integrate it into the garden or even into the house so it offers both fun and safety? This article will give you a brief insight into the world of slides and provide all the information you need to find the perfect slide for your family. Discover how you can bring movement, laughter and adventure straight into your home.

Key points in brief

- Slides promote children's motor skills, self-confidence and social abilities and offer a healthy alternative to screen time.
- Age-appropriate selection of the slide supports the child's developmental stages, starting with simple models from 18 months up to more demanding variants for school-age children.
- The choice of material (plastic, wood, metal) influences the durability, safety and environmental compatibility of the slide. Considerations about location, the children's ages and the budget are decisive for choosing the right material.
- For wooden slides, using weather-resistant and safely processed wood types such as oak, robinia or larch for outdoor use and beech or maple for indoor use is crucial.
- Safety aspects such as stability, material quality and the design of the fall zone have top priority to avoid injuries and ensure play enjoyment.
- Considering sustainability aspects and choosing certified woods contributes to environmental responsibility and ensures healthy play.

From what age are slides suitable for children?

The question of from what age a slide is suitable for children is important given the many benefits slides offer. In principle, there are already slides specifically developed for the youngest family members.

Babies and toddlers: As early as 18 months, toddlers can have their first positive experiences on a children's slide with the right safety precautions and under supervision. For this age group, low and gentle models with wide steps and handrails to hold on to are especially recommended, or models like the Sliding board for the little horn.

Children from 3 years: Once your child can walk and climb safely, more possibilities open up. Climbing triangles with a slide or a climbing frame in the garden that offers a slide as well as swings and maybe even a sandbox are ideal play structures. They not only promote motor skills through climbing but also social interaction when playing in groups.

School-age children: For children from 6 years old, more challenging variants are suitable. Higher garden slides or climbing frames with integrated slide chutes offer more demanding challenges. At this age, aspects like material (wooden slide vs. plastic slide) and design (colorful vs. natural) play an increasingly important role.

Regardless of age, safety always comes first: make sure the slide you choose is stable and made from high-quality materials. The fall zone should also be designed to be soft — lawn areas or special safety mats work well here.

If you choose the right model and pay attention to age-appropriate features, you'll not only create an environment full of fun but also actively support your child's development.

What material should a slide be made of?

When buying a slide, whether for the garden or the children's room, the choice of material is crucial for longevity, safety and fun. To make the right choice, the most common materials are explained here.

Plastic slides

Plastic is lightweight, weather-resistant and available in bright colors — ideal for young children. A children's slide made of plastic is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and is easy to clean. It is perfect for families looking for a cost-effective and durable solution.

Wooden slides

Wood offers a natural aesthetic and fits wonderfully into gardens or as part of a climbing triangle with a slide in the children's room. It is robust and, with proper treatment, weather-resistant. Wooden slides often harmonize with other play equipment like swings or playhouses and promote eco-friendly play.

Metal slide chutes

Metal is considered extremely durable and stable. They are especially suitable for public playgrounds or gardens with plenty of space. Metal slides can be higher than their plastic or wooden counterparts, making them attractive for older children.

Each material has pros and cons: plastic convinces with easy maintenance and variety, wood with sustainability and natural appeal, metal with robustness and longevity. Regardless of the chosen material, safety aspects should always be paramount — look for rounded corners, smooth surfaces without sharp edges and TÜV or GS certification as signs of tested safety.

Ultimately the choice of material depends on your needs: Where will the slide be installed? How old are the children? What budget is available? If you consider these questions, you're sure to find a slide that is not only fun but also safe.

Which wood is suitable for slides?

Are you looking for the perfect slide for your garden or children's room? Then choosing the right material is essential. For wooden slides, natural aesthetics and sturdiness are paramount. But not all wood is the same. Here you will learn which wood types are best suited for slides.

Durability and weather resistance

For outdoor slides such as garden slides or climbing triangles with slides, the wood's weather resistance is of great importance. Hardwoods like oak, robinia or larch offer optimal properties here. These woods are very resistant to moisture and rot and are therefore excellent for outdoor use.

Safety and workmanship

In addition to durability, safety plays a central role in choosing wood. Smooth-planed and well-processed wood prevents splinters that can cause injuries. Beech and maple are examples of softer woods that, due to their smooth surface, are particularly suitable for slide chutes in the children's room.

Sustainability

Another important aspect when choosing the right wood is sustainability. Certified wood from responsibly managed forests guarantees that your purchase is environmentally friendly. Look for labels like FSC or PEFC to ensure you choose a product that is good for your children and good for the environment.

When buying a wooden children's slide, you should therefore pay attention not only to the design but also to the type of wood used, its origin and processing — this guarantees carefree play and simultaneously protects our environment.

Conclusion

Choosing the right slide for children is more than just buying a toy. It's about promoting their development and ensuring their safety. You have seen that both the material and the type of wood play a decisive role. Whether plastic, metal or wood, it is important to pay attention to quality and sustainability. Especially for wooden slides, choosing the right wood is crucial for the longevity of the play equipment and the protection of our environment. Careful selection maximizes not only the children's fun but also makes a positive contribution to the environment. With the right knowledge and by following these tips, you will find a slide that is not only safe and durable but also provides children with countless hours of enjoyment. In addition to slides, you can also find climbing triangles and arches at Kletterling. For the children's room we don't just have the matching children's wardrobe, but also play mats, children's armchair and other high-quality furniture.
